Time Based Media I

The Past

Thinking about the past can lead to many different emotions from whichever avenue you choose to rediscover. As I looked back in my timeline (starting in October 2000), there is a lot of content that has engulfed me -whether I paid attention to it or not. I chose to reflect upon consumerism, fads and politics from early 2000s to present day, trying to see how things have evolved. And from this search spurred a realization that things have not necessarily changed. Yes, there have been little evolutions in certain elements throughout the past i.e. technology and media, however, the things that bombard us the most still have an overarching shadow that seem to never get resolved as they age with us. There were elements of nostalgia, but also there were many questions that were raised about our society as a whole and where our collective values lie. It was fascinating to look back and reread some of the Time For Kids covers handed out to me elementary school explaining the 'new' conflicts that are still living today. Even watching old TV commercials trying to sell us products that will pile up and we'll hold onto for no reason. It is unsettling to think about how much we consume physically, mentally, consciously and subconsciously. Constantly living in the bombardment  of  media and, yet, we dismiss so much -a kind of desensitization-

which could be a reason why this all continues today.
